Your account & getting started
How do I sign in?
Use your email address and existing password. Your public username is not your sign-in name. Existing passwords and accounts are preserved. Password recovery is available on the login page; administrators still use the native security check when opening ACP.
Do I need to choose a username when registering?
No. Registration creates a random public name such as QuietOtter_482163. Your email is used for sign-in and is not your public handle. Existing members keep their usernames. Account activation, password rules and anti-spam checks still apply.
Can I choose my language before creating an account?
Yes. Choose English, Română or Magyar on the registration page. The agreement and account form follow your selection, and it becomes your account language. Switching language does not submit your password. The top-bar language selector remains available after registration.
Where are account tools and messages?
Click your round avatar for account settings, avatar choices, Journey, Wallet & shop, Spaces, collaboration invitations and Privacy. Notifications and private messages have separate buttons in the top bar. ACP and MCP appear in the avatar menu only for authorized staff.
How do I add a friend?
Open a member’s profile and choose Invite as friend. They receive a notification and can accept or decline. Friendship becomes mutual only after acceptance. Requests expire after 14 days; senders can cancel and either friend can remove the connection. There is no username-entry form or Foes list. Requests have daily limits and a cooldown after rejection or removal.
Reading & comfort
How can I make the forum easier to read?
Open Reading settings to choose 16, 18 or 20px text and stronger contrast. Focus view hides extra navigation and member panels; switch it off whenever you want everything back.
Where are my notepad and reading tools saved?
Reading choices and notepad text are saved in this browser for the current account. Notes are not posted. Continue-reading history is off until you enable it in Reading settings. Use Clear device data to remove local preferences and notes; a shared browser still requires care.
How do I change the language?
Use the top-bar selector for English, Română or Magyar. Your device remembers the choice. Community news has complete versions in all three languages; ordinary member posts and reviews keep their original language.
What does the online-members card show?
It shows recently active, visible members. Refresh updates the list without opening another page. Hidden presence follows native permissions, so administrators may see entries that other members cannot.
Why do Space tabs keep my place?
Switching sections keeps the Space controls in view, and opening a topic takes you to that Space rather than the site header. Explicit section links and Back keep their usual behavior. Supported browsers use a brief transition that respects reduced motion.
Your profile & progress
How do I choose an avatar or edit my profile?
Open your avatar menu, then Choose your avatar. Only enabled gallery portraits are available. Uploading, external avatar URLs and Gravatar are disabled on the server. Your profile shows your chosen portrait, membership and review score.
How do member reviews and scores work?
Give another member a rating from 1 to 5 and a constructive comment. You have one editable review per person and cannot review yourself. Scores are separate from XP; staff can remove abusive reviews.
How do I earn XP and levels?
Your Journey shows your global level and eligible contribution XP. Focus & Play and collaborative rewards use the existing XP ledger and their configured daily caps. Membership tenure and member review scores are separate. Private productivity is not displayed as public task content.
What do membership days and ranks mean?
Days count completed 24-hour periods since registration. Ranks are New arrival (0–29 days), Settled in (30–179), Community regular (180 days to one year), Veteran (1–2 years), Seasoned veteran (2–5), and Community pillar (5+). Year boundaries follow calendar anniversaries.
Who appears on the leaderboard?
Rankings exclude staff from every filter. Choose Highest level, Oldest members, or Most active over the last 30 days. Only eligible approved contributions in forums you can read count; private journey totals may differ.
How can I share my PC specs?
Open User Control Panel → Profile → PC specs, or Edit PC specs on your own profile. Add any components you want. Details are private until you choose public profile sharing; topic highlighting needs its own checkbox. Computer topics show shared processor, graphics and memory details beside posts, with a link to the complete setup. You can remove everything at any time. Specs are included in account exports and deleted with the account.
Where did the long profile sections go?
Profiles now have a compact overview and separate About, community activity, PC specs, reviews and companion sections when available. Select a section to see it without stacking everything on one page. Arrow keys move between profile tabs. Account Overview also shows your actual Space, discussion and reply totals. Sharing and review permissions are unchanged.
News & conversations
Where can I find news categories?
Top news appears on the Spaces homepage and in its own navigation section, with Technology, Gaming, Science and Community categories. Only native administrators and moderators can publish or edit news articles; eligible members can comment and vote.
How are news stories translated?
News authors provide complete English, Romanian and Hungarian headlines, articles and poll translations before publication. Changing language switches versions while comments and vote totals remain shared.
Why are news vote choices hidden at first?
Open the news article to see its community question and Vote button. Open Vote for the choices and scores. News tiles keep voting controls inside the article. Sign in to vote; poll rules decide how many options you can choose and whether you can change your vote.
Can I add a poll to my own topic?
Create a discussion inside a Space and expand Add a community vote. Supply a question, 2–10 different choices, a selection limit and an optional closing time. Current Space membership and server-side voting rules apply.
Coins & cosmetics
How do I collect Community coins?
Open Wallet & shop from your avatar menu or control panel. Collect one coin for every five contribution XP above your previously claimed high. Existing approved XP counts; restoring lost XP to an old high cannot award the same coins again.
How are purchases protected?
Prices, balances and the purchaser come from the server. Purchases check your funds and ownership, record a receipt, and do not charge a successful request twice. Wallet history belongs to your account. Coins are virtual and have no cash-payment integration.
Which cosmetics can I buy?
The shop offers special statuses, generated avatar frames and profile banners, name effects and avatar glows. Statuses last 30 days; frames, banners, name effects and glows are permanent. Each card shows its price and duration.
What are the name effects and avatar glows?
Wallet & shop includes animated RGB, hologram and comet name effects alongside other cosmetics. Preview and equip an owned effect in the Name effects category. Animation pauses in Focus view and follows your device’s reduced-motion preference. An effect never grants a role or permission.
Can I switch or remove a cosmetic?
Buying equips the item immediately. Owned items can be equipped again for free. Use default look resets one slot without losing ownership. Status, frame, banner, name and avatar glow have separate slots; expired statuses stop appearing.
How can I find cosmetics quickly?
Browse Profile, Companions or Spaces, then choose a category such as name effects, avatar frames or hats. Combine search, owned-item and Common, Rare or Legendary filters; sort by price, name or rarity. Show more loads the next set without refreshing. Rarity describes the visual collection and never grants permissions or random rewards. Space artwork is bought through the selected Space shop by its owner; member decorations stay separate.
What happens when I buy an item?
Unaffordable items show Not enough coins before you click. Buy opens a Yes/No confirmation with the item, price, current balance and remaining balance. No or Escape cancels without a charge. The server checks the current price, permission and balance again; repeating the same purchase request never charges twice. Member-slot upgrades use the same confirmation.
Staff & community safety
What is the difference between Owner and a shop status?
Owner is a native founder role with administrative access. Staff roles are assigned by board administration. Shop cosmetics change appearance and never grant staff permissions or ownership of the website.
Why do administrator names glow?
Administrator glow comes from native staff identity, with a small indicator. A purchased name style cannot make someone an administrator. The animation stays still in Focus view or when reduced motion is requested.
Where are ACP and MCP?
Open your avatar dropdown. ACP opens the Administration Control Panel and keeps its password check. MCP opens moderation tools. Links appear only when your account has the corresponding native permissions.
How do I report a post or a member?
Use the report action on a post, or Report user on a member’s profile or post details. Choose Spam, Harassment, Hate, Privacy, Impersonation or Other and describe what happened. User reports are private to authorized administrators and moderators; they never apply an automatic punishment.
Will every post need approval?
Normal registered-member posts publish immediately. External links, new attachments, likely personal data or secrets, and targeted threats go to administrator review. Ordinary profanity is allowed. Screening is a precaution and cannot recognize every kind of sensitive information.
What does AutoMod do?
AutoMod checks new posts, edits, polls and translated news before publication. Administrators can configure links, possible personal data, targeted abuse, new attachments and spam checks. Repeated long posts, excessive repeated text, posting bursts and long all-caps text can trigger review. Credentials and scanner failures always require private administrator review. Ordinary swearing is allowed. It never automatically bans members or deletes content; pattern matching can miss harmful content or flag an innocent post.
Focus & Play
How do the Focus & Play tabs and modes work?
Open Focus & Play, then choose Tasks, Timer, Mini-games, Companion, Inventory or Achievements. Standard and ADHD-friendly modes offer the same features and rewards. ADHD-friendly mode simplifies statistics and shows one task at a time. Sound, reminders, motion and public pet sharing are optional; no diagnosis is requested.
Who can see my personal tasks?
Only your account can read or change your tasks, notes and smaller steps, including when another member is a moderator or administrator. Add priorities, categories, dates and daily or weekly recurrence. Complete smaller steps before their parent. Tasks remain completable after daily rewards run out. They are included in your private account export.
How do focus sessions earn rewards?
Choose a preset or custom duration, optionally link a task and set a break. Pause, resume, stop or finish the persisted session. The server checks elapsed active time; eligible sessions must last at least five minutes. In-page break reminders and optional sounds help you return gently. The timer does not verify that you were working.
How do mini-games and game rankings work?
Memory, Reaction, Word, Number, Pattern and Daily Trivia have Relaxed, Balanced and Challenge difficulty. Challenge adds longer and multi-round puzzles. Rankings show each eligible member’s best validated score separately for each game and difficulty; staff are excluded. The server calculates scores and administrators can disqualify suspicious results. Browser games cannot prove human play.
How do pets and cosmetics work?
Adopt a companion for free and give it a name. Its transparent portrait is compact, with hats, glasses and accessories moving together. Animation has a pause control, follows your saved preference, and respects reduced motion. Background-only items are retired from new sales; existing ownership is retained. Buy other cosmetics in Wallet & shop. Public companion sharing is off by default.
What are the Focus & Play reward limits?
Default eligible rewards are 2 XP and 1 coin for a task, 5 XP and 1 coin for a focus session, and 3 XP and 1 coin for a game. Each source has a daily limit, and all Focus rewards including achievements share a daily ceiling of 50 XP and 10 coins. Administrators can change these values. Replayed completions do not pay twice. Task completion is self-reported, so rewards stay conservative.
Spaces & invitations
Can I create a Space?
Buy Premium in the existing coin shop: 100 coins for 30 days. Active Premium lets you create up to five Spaces. Existing owners keep managing their Spaces after expiry. A new Space is private and starts with 30 members; owners can buy 10 extra slots for 25 coins, up to 500. Coins never buy moderation power.
How do invitation and referral links work?
A space manager creates a link with an expiry and use limit, and can revoke it. Existing members confirm Join. New visitors see the group name during native registration and join after registration or account activation while the invitation remains valid. Referrals record the inviter and successful joins; they do not award currency. Treat the link as private, because its holders can see the invitation and group description.
How do public Spaces and discovery work?
Owners must confirm before publishing a private Space. Public Spaces are searchable, readable and joinable by eligible signed-in members. Discover offers categories, trending activity, newest Spaces and recommendations based on your joined Space categories. Blocked members cannot rejoin through links or APIs.
What can owners customize?
Choose original winter, Halloween, forest or celestial artwork, an icon, accent color, category and conversation layout. Space progress unlocks more cosmetics. Members use the same coin wallet for exclusive Space badges and frames. Permissions are separate from appearance and levels.
Who can see collaborative tasks?
The owner can enable Collaborative Focus & Play in Customize. Private tasks are creator-only, shared tasks require accepted collaborators, and Space tasks require current membership and permission. Owners, moderators and administrators do not gain private task access through rank. Personal Focus tasks are never imported. Attachments are currently disabled.
How do collaboration invitations work?
An invitation shows only the sender, Space and activity type until you accept. Decline, block senders or disable invitations in Collaboration privacy. Invitations expire, can be cancelled, and have daily anti-spam limits. Leaving a Space revokes collaborative access; rejoining does not restore old grants automatically.
Do group sessions and challenges track me?
Participation is voluntary in every display mode. No camera, microphone, location or activity surveillance is used. Each member starts their own server-timed session. Names and history stay hidden unless individually enabled, and aliases are used for optional rankings. Global collaborative rewards require a separate opt-in.
How can I report harmful collaborative content?
Open Report on a task or message and select a category. Choose only the evidence excerpt you want to share and confirm disclosure to authorized moderators. Reports do not open your entire private task to staff. Moderation decisions include reasons, an audit trail and an appeal route in My reports & appeals. Global administrators retain platform oversight.
What do I accept when creating a Space?
Before creating, read the creation guide and explicitly accept the current Space rules and owner responsibilities. It explains private/public access, member privacy, AutoMod review, posting and invitation limits, capacity purchases, War stakes and deletion. The server records the policy version, time and accepting account. AutoMod and anti-spam apply automatically to community messages and discussions; Space owners cannot switch off platform safeguards. Screening is not a guarantee, so reporting remains available.
Can an owner delete a Space?
Yes. Open the Space discussions page, expand Delete Space and type its exact name. Only its current owner can confirm. Community discussions, chat, memberships and invitations are removed; unstarted War stakes are refunded and a running War is forfeited to its opponent. Each task creator retains their own task copies privately through account tools and export until the normal retention/deletion policy applies. Purchased slots and cosmetics are not refunded. Deleted Spaces disappear from discovery, and old routes cannot restore them.
Where did the forum topics go?
The Spaces homepage brings together Top news and trending public Spaces. Existing community discussions have been copied into their matching Spaces, and old links redirect there. Open a Space to read discussions, create a topic, reply or vote. Private Spaces are excluded from public discovery.
How do Premium and member slots work?
A new Space includes 30 members, counting its owner and moderators. Open Edit Space to choose an available banner, update appearance and privacy, or buy 10 extra slots for 25 existing coins, up to 500 members. Purchases require owner permission and explicit confirmation; repeating the same request does not charge twice.
Can a Space have its own rules and polls?
The current owner can edit Space rules. Members must accept the latest rules before posting. Discussion creators can add 2–10 poll choices and a selection limit. Authorized Space moderators can pin discussions and close replies. Normal posts publish immediately; potentially sensitive content can be held for review.
How do replies, reactions and live updates work?
Owners may enable Live chat in Edit Space. Discussion replies sit inside their original conversation, with indented reply branches and emoji reactions. Reply shows the selected author and a message excerpt before sending. Live updates recheck access. Authorized owners or moderators can remove topics or published messages; removed reply content is hidden while remaining replies keep their place. Member text is not automatically translated.
Who controls Space roles?
The owner manages the Space and assigns its moderators. Role permissions can control invitations, content moderation, discussions, challenges and analytics. Global administrators retain platform oversight. Ownership, membership and permissions are checked separately from coins, cosmetics and Space levels.
How does Space progress work?
Eligible community participation earns bounded Space progress and unlocks customization as the Space levels up. Personal task contents and private productivity statistics are not published. Space reputation is local to that community; eligible global rewards use your existing forum XP and wallet. Buying a cosmetic never grants authority.
What can Space owners see in analytics?
Authorized managers see member growth, published discussion activity, engagement counts and popular discussions. Analytics do not reveal personal tasks, private task descriptions or hidden focus-session participation. Public discovery uses public community activity, not private productivity.
How do pinned topics, polls, bold text and trending work?
Space owners and authorized moderators can pin or unpin discussions. Members with discussion permission can create optional polls and mark Computer topics. Select text and press B in the visual editor to make it bold; no visible formatting stars are added. Trending sorts published replies from the last seven days within that Space, with pinned topics first.
How is member of the month selected?
This month’s leading opted-in member, shown with their Space alias. Published discussion posts contribute up to 20 points; joining different conversations up to 20; support from distinct other members up to 60. Owners, Space moderators and global staff are excluded. Private tasks and focus sessions do not count. No coins or XP are awarded. Turn off Space ranking visibility to opt out.
How do front pictures, banners and frames work?
A front Space picture appears on discovery and My Spaces cards; the banner appears inside the Space. Owners choose them separately in Edit Space, along with an icon and accent color. Free entry pictures are available immediately. Special pictures and transparent frames are bought from that Space’s shop using the existing wallet, then equipped in Edit Space. Space-owned purchases remain with the Space if its owner changes. Cosmetics never grant permissions.
How do I choose the language spoken in my Space?
The owner chooses English, Romanian or Hungarian under Edit Space → Details. A flag and language label appear on the Space, discovery cards and Trending. This describes the community’s spoken language; it does not automatically translate members’ posts or change another member’s personal interface language.
Where are Space settings and tools?
Discussions and enabled Live chat stay in the main Space bar. Focus & Play groups collaborative tools, Community contains members, rules, invitations, shop and progress, and Manage contains owner settings and moderation tools. Edit Space has Details, Appearance, Features & roles, Member slots and Badges & extras. Owners can switch Live chat on or off; discussion replies remain available.
What do Today, This week and All-time show?
These tabs select separate public-Space rankings. Recent rankings consider varied activity, active members, member growth and eligible progress; repeated low-effort actions are limited. All-time has its own cumulative calculation. Private, hidden and unavailable Spaces are excluded. A Space’s level remains visible separately from its trending position.
Privacy & your data
How do I export my account data?
Open Privacy in your avatar menu or User Control Panel. Confirm your current password to download a private JSON file. It includes your profile, posts, accessible mailbox, attachment metadata, votes and community-account records. It excludes passwords, login tokens, other members’ mailboxes and private staff notes. Attachment files and browser-local notes are not included. You can export once every five minutes.
How do I request account deletion?
Open Privacy, read the explanation, confirm your password and submit a deletion request. An administrator reviews it and uses the native account-deletion controls. You can cancel while the account still exists. The administrator decides whether public posts remain anonymously or are removed. Security and moderation evidence can be retained; completion appears only after native deletion succeeds.
How long are IP addresses kept?
Administrators can enable historical IP cleanup and choose 1–3650 days in Privacy management. It starts disabled. Eligible IP fields are cleared in batches; posts, messages and audit records remain. Active sessions, recent login protection and active polls can retain IPs longer. Backups and web-server logs require separate settings.
Who can see the staff audit trail?
Authorized moderators see user-report actions and native moderation activity for their permitted forums. Administrators can also see privacy and sensitive-post review actions. The trail stores action codes, IDs and dates without copying IP addresses, report text or credentials. It has no editing or clearing controls.
How do user blocks and hidden Spaces work?
Block member on a profile hides the two accounts from one another in profiles, discussions, replies, member lists and activity views, and stops messages and friend invitations. Existing friendship ends. Unblocking does not restore it automatically or undo a block made by the other person. In a Space, Community has Hide Space and Block Space: hiding removes it from your listings, while blocking also stops direct access and joining until restored in Friends → Blocked & hidden. Membership and existing financial commitments are not changed.
Collaborative Focus & Play
What is the difference between Private, Shared and Space tasks?
Private tasks are visible only to their creator. Shared tasks require explicit accepted collaboration access. Space tasks require current membership and the relevant permission. A Space owner or moderator cannot read private tasks because of their role. Your personal Focus & Play tasks are never automatically shared or imported.
Can I collaborate on task groups?
Yes. Task groups organize collaborative work, with invitations and accepted access checked on the server. Pending invitations reveal the sender, Space and activity type without disclosing the task title, description or private resource identifier. Accepting an invitation grants only its specified access.
How do assignments, subtasks and comments work?
Create a title, description, priority and optional deadline, then add smaller steps and comments. Assignment to a collaborator requires accepted access. Completion permissions are checked for the creator and assigned collaborators. Activity history records changes. Recurrence and progress help organize work; file attachments are currently disabled.
Can I decline invitations or hide focus participation?
Yes. Accept, decline or block invitations, and disable incoming collaboration invitations in your privacy settings. Senders can cancel invitations, which also expire automatically. Session identity and participation history are separate opt-ins. Leaving a Space revokes grants and pending invitations; rejoining does not restore them.
How do community challenges work?
Authorized members can create task or voluntary focus challenges. Members join explicitly and contribute eligible activity after joining. Rankings are optional and use Space aliases when enabled. There is no penalty for inactivity or missed days. Completion and reward claims are validated on the server.
Can collaborative activity earn unlimited coins?
No. Collaborative global rewards start disabled for each account. Opt in in Collaboration privacy if you want eligible activity reflected in your global XP and wallet. Rewards share existing daily caps and use server timestamps, maturity checks and duplicate protection. Challenge claims have additional limits. Owners cannot set arbitrary rewards or mint coins. Self-reported tasks cannot prove real-life effort.
What happens to old or deleted collaborative data?
The default cleanup policy removes completed tasks after 180 days and inactive open tasks after 365 days, in bounded scheduled batches. Administrators can configure retention. Export your own account data through Privacy; private task bodies are exported only to their creator. Native account deletion removes private productivity data. Backups and host logs follow separate operator policies.
What can administrators configure?
The native ACP contains collaborative feature switches, invitation limits, reward values and caps, task retention, challenge controls, privacy and notification settings. Existing native administrator permissions and ACP reauthentication apply. Reports share selected evidence, not unrestricted access to private productivity.
Can the platform be used from a future mobile app?
Collaborative routes provide authenticated, permission-checked JSON responses with input validation, pagination, rate limits and consistent errors. Mutations require the native session and CSRF protection. Private data is never available to anonymous API callers. A Flutter application and a separate mobile token-login system are not included yet.
Space Wars
Who can declare and accept a Space War?
Each public Space needs 30 active, unbanned members with accounts at least 24 hours old. Only its actual owner can enable invitations, declare a War, or accept one. Both owners explicitly accept the current War agreement. Five invited, consenting players are required on each side before either owner starts ten live rounds.
Can a War take coins from other members?
Only invited players who explicitly accept pay a five-coin stake from their existing wallet. Each Space needs 30 eligible members; exactly five players per team are required to start. The winning team splits the committed pot. A tie or unstarted cancellation refunds stakes once. Ordinary membership changes after start do not cancel commitments. Declining spends nothing.
How does live trivia prevent score manipulation?
The server chooses and shuffles ten complete questions. Everyone sees the same timed round and can lock one answer. Future questions and current correct answers are withheld; team scores reveal completed rounds only. Accuracy decides the result without a speed bonus. The server checks current membership and calculates scores, payouts and duplicate receipts. Browser play still cannot guarantee human-only participation.
Where are War results and rewards?
Space Wars lists recent matches and public Space wins, draws and match counts. Private Spaces do not appear. Winning Spaces receive bounded local progress. Eligible winners may claim configured XP after opting into collaborative global rewards, subject to existing daily caps. Coin payouts transfer stakes and never mint coins. Your alias is hidden unless you opt in, and can be hidden again. Shop, Progress and Space Wars are available only to current Space members. War lists and statistics are scoped to joined Spaces. Former committed players retain their own settlement access.
What happens if a Space or participant loses access?
Once a match starts, its roster and stakes remain committed. Leaving, blocking a player, disabling future invitations or making a Space private stops the relevant access without refunding the match. Removed players cannot submit new answers. Deleting a running Space forfeits the pot to its opponent and grants no bonus XP; an unstarted lobby refunds. Administrator safety intervention or reviewed account deletion can refund an affected match. Pair cooldowns and daily caps still apply.
How do War bell invitations work?
The opposing owner first receives a request. Once that owner accepts, eligible members of both Spaces receive a bell invitation. Open it to accept or decline; joining also needs your explicit five-coin consent. Invitations expire with the lobby. Declining never spends coins. Membership, account age, blocks, invitation opt-out, daily limits and team capacity are checked on the server. Owners cannot force participation.
Login and Registration Issues
Why do I need to register?
You may not have to, it is up to the administrator of the board as to whether you need to register in order to post messages. However; registration will give you access to additional features not available to guest users such as definable avatar images, private messaging, emailing of fellow users, usergroup subscription, etc. It only takes a few moments to register so it is recommended you do so.
What is COPPA?
COPPA, or the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, is a law in the United States requiring websites which can potentially collect information from minors under the age of 13 to have written parental consent or some other method of legal guardian acknowledgment, allowing the collection of personally identifiable information from a minor under the age of 13. If you are unsure if this applies to you as someone trying to register or to the website you are trying to register on, contact legal counsel for assistance. Please note that phpBB Limited and the owners of this board cannot provide legal advice and is not a point of contact for legal concerns of any kind, except as outlined in question “Who do I contact about abusive and/or legal matters related to this board?”.
Why can’t I register?
It is possible a board administrator has disabled registration to prevent new visitors from signing up. A board administrator could have also banned your IP address or disallowed the username you are attempting to register. Contact a board administrator for assistance.
I registered but cannot login!
First, check your username and password. If they are correct, then one of two things may have happened. If COPPA support is enabled and you specified being under 13 years old during registration, you will have to follow the instructions you received. Some boards will also require new registrations to be activated, either by yourself or by an administrator before you can logon; this information was present during registration. If you were sent an email, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an email, you may have provided an incorrect email address or the email may have been picked up by a spam filer. If you are sure the email address you provided is correct, try contacting an administrator.
Why can’t I login?
There are several reasons why this could occur. First, ensure your username and password are correct. If they are, contact a board administrator to make sure you haven’t been banned. It is also possible the website owner has a configuration error on their end, and they would need to fix it.
I registered in the past but cannot login any more?!
It is possible an administrator has deactivated or deleted your account for some reason. Also, many boards periodically remove users who have not posted for a long time to reduce the size of the database. If this has happened, try registering again and being more involved in discussions.
I’ve lost my password!
Don’t panic! While your password cannot be retrieved, it can easily be reset. Visit the login page and click I forgot my password. Follow the instructions and you should be able to log in again shortly.
However, if you are not able to reset your password, contact a board administrator.
However, if you are not able to reset your password, contact a board administrator.
Why do I get logged off automatically?
If you do not check the Remember me box when you login, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the Remember me box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university computer lab, etc. If you do not see this checkbox, it means a board administrator has disabled this feature.
What does the “Delete cookies” do?
“Delete cookies” deletes the cookies created by phpBB which keep you authenticated and logged into the board. Cookies also provide functions such as read tracking if they have been enabled by a board administrator. If you are having login or logout problems, deleting board cookies may help.
User Preferences and settings
How do I change my settings?
If you are a registered user, all your settings are stored in the board database. To alter them, visit your User Control Panel; a link can usually be found by clicking on your username at the top of board pages. This system will allow you to change all your settings and preferences.
How do I prevent my username appearing in the online user listings?
Within your User Control Panel, under “Board preferences”, you will find the option Hide your online status. Enable this option and you will only appear to the administrators, moderators and yourself. You will be counted as a hidden user.
The times are not correct!
It is possible the time displayed is from a timezone different from the one you are in. If this is the case, visit your User Control Panel and change your timezone to match your particular area, e.g. London, Paris, New York, Sydney, etc. Please note that changing the timezone, like most settings, can only be done by registered users. If you are not registered, this is a good time to do so.
I changed the timezone and the time is still wrong!
If you are sure you have set the timezone correctly and the time is still incorrect, then the time stored on the server clock is incorrect. Please notify an administrator to correct the problem.
My language is not in the list!
Either the administrator has not installed your language or nobody has translated this board into your language. Try asking a board administrator if they can install the language pack you need. If the language pack does not exist, feel free to create a new translation. More information can be found at the phpBB® website.
What are the images next to my username?
There are two images which may appear along with a username when viewing posts. One of them may be an image associated with your rank, generally in the form of stars, blocks or dots, indicating how many posts you have made or your status on the board. Another, usually larger, image is known as an avatar and is generally unique or personal to each user.
How do I display an avatar?
Choose an enabled default avatar from the community gallery. Avatar uploads, external images and Gravatar are disabled. Purchased frames and glows decorate your selected default portrait.
What is my rank and how do I change it?
Ranks, which appear below your username, indicate the number of posts you have made or identify certain users, e.g. moderators and administrators. In general, you cannot directly change the wording of any board ranks as they are set by the board administrator. Please do not abuse the board by posting unnecessarily just to increase your rank. Most boards will not tolerate this and the moderator or administrator will simply lower your post count.
Can members send email to one another?
Account email addresses are private and the member email form is disabled. Members cannot see your address or email you through the site. You control incoming private messages under Account → Privacy → Messages & connections.
Posting Issues
How do I create a new topic or post a reply?
To post a new topic in a forum, click "New Topic". To post a reply to a topic, click "Post Reply". You may need to register before you can post a message. A list of your permissions in each forum is available at the bottom of the forum and topic screens. Example: You can post new topics, You can post attachments, etc.
How do I edit or delete a post?
Unless you are a board administrator or moderator, you can only edit or delete your own posts. You can edit a post by clicking the edit button for the relevant post, sometimes for only a limited time after the post was made. If someone has already replied to the post, you will find a small piece of text output below the post when you return to the topic which lists the number of times you edited it along with the date and time. This will only appear if someone has made a reply; it will not appear if a moderator or administrator edited the post, though they may leave a note as to why they’ve edited the post at their own discretion. Please note that normal users cannot delete a post once someone has replied.
How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one via your User Control Panel. Once created, you can check the Attach a signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio button in the User Control Panel. If you do so, you can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box within the posting form.
How do I create a poll?
When posting a new topic or editing the first post of a topic, click the “Poll creation” tab below the main posting form; if you cannot see this, you do not have appropriate permissions to create polls. Enter a title and at least two options in the appropriate fields, making sure each option is on a separate line in the textarea. You can also set the number of options users may select during voting under “Options per user”, a time limit in days for the poll (0 for infinite duration) and lastly the option to allow users to amend their votes.
Why can’t I add more poll options?
The limit for poll options is set by the board administrator. If you feel you need to add more options to your poll than the allowed amount, contact the board administrator.
How do I edit or delete a poll?
As with posts, polls can only be edited by the original poster, a moderator or an administrator. To edit a poll, click to edit the first post in the topic; this always has the poll associated with it. If no one has cast a vote, users can delete the poll or edit any poll option. However, if members have already placed votes, only moderators or administrators can edit or delete it. This prevents the poll’s options from being changed mid-way through a poll.
Why can’t I access a forum?
Some forums may be limited to certain users or groups. To view, read, post or perform another action you may need special permissions. Contact a moderator or board administrator to grant you access.
Why can’t I add attachments?
Attachment permissions are granted on a per forum, per group, or per user basis. The board administrator may not have allowed attachments to be added for the specific forum you are posting in, or perhaps only certain groups can post attachments. Contact the board administrator if you are unsure about why you are unable to add attachments.
Why did I receive a warning?
Each board administrator has their own set of rules for their site. If you have broken a rule, you may be issued a warning. Please note that this is the board administrator’s decision, and the phpBB Limited has nothing to do with the warnings on the given site. Contact the board administrator if you are unsure about why you were issued a warning.
How can I report posts to a moderator?
If the board administrator has allowed it, you should see a button for reporting posts next to the post you wish to report. Clicking this will walk you through the steps necessary to report the post.
What is the “Save” button for in topic posting?
This allows you to save drafts to be completed and submitted at a later date. To reload a saved draft, visit the User Control Panel.
Why does my post need to be approved?
The board administrator may have decided that posts in the forum you are posting to require review before submission. It is also possible that the administrator has placed you in a group of users whose posts require review before submission. Please contact the board administrator for further details.
How do I bump my topic?
By clicking the “Bump topic” link when you are viewing it, you can “bump” the topic to the top of the forum on the first page. However, if you do not see this, then topic bumping may be disabled or the time allowance between bumps has not yet been reached. It is also possible to bump the topic simply by replying to it, however, be sure to follow the board rules when doing so.
Formatting and Topic Types
What is BBCode?
BBCode is a special implementation of HTML, offering great formatting control on particular objects in a post. The use of BBCode is granted by the administrator, but it can also be disabled on a per post basis from the posting form. BBCode itself is similar in style to HTML, but tags are enclosed in square brackets [ and ] rather than < and >. For more information on BBCode see the guide which can be accessed from the posting page.
Can I use HTML?
No. It is not possible to post HTML on this board and have it rendered as HTML. Most formatting which can be carried out using HTML can be applied using BBCode instead.
What are Smilies?
Smilies, or Emoticons, are small images which can be used to express a feeling using a short code, e.g. :) denotes happy, while :( denotes sad. The full list of emoticons can be seen in the posting form. Try not to overuse smilies, however, as they can quickly render a post unreadable and a moderator may edit them out or remove the post altogether. The board administrator may also have set a limit to the number of smilies you may use within a post.
Can I post images?
Yes, images can be shown in your posts. If the administrator has allowed attachments, you may be able to upload the image to the board. Otherwise, you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor images stored behind authentication mechanisms, e.g. hotmail or yahoo mailboxes, password protected sites, etc. To display the image use the BBCode [img] tag.
What are global announcements?
Global announcements contain important information and you should read them whenever possible. They will appear at the top of every forum and within your User Control Panel. Global announcement permissions are granted by the board administrator.
What are announcements?
Announcements often contain important information for the forum you are currently reading and you should read them whenever possible. Announcements appear at the top of every page in the forum to which they are posted. As with global announcements, announcement permissions are granted by the board administrator.
What are sticky topics?
Sticky topics within the forum appear below announcements and only on the first page. They are often quite important so you should read them whenever possible. As with announcements and global announcements, sticky topic permissions are granted by the board administrator.
What are locked topics?
Locked topics are topics where users can no longer reply and any poll it contained was automatically ended. Topics may be locked for many reasons and were set this way by either the forum moderator or board administrator. You may also be able to lock your own topics depending on the permissions you are granted by the board administrator.
What are topic icons?
Topic icons are author chosen images associated with posts to indicate their content. The ability to use topic icons depends on the permissions set by the board administrator.
User Levels and Groups
What are Administrators?
Administrators are members assigned with the highest level of control over the entire board. These members can control all facets of board operation, including setting permissions, banning users, creating usergroups or moderators, etc., dependent upon the board founder and what permissions he or she has given the other administrators. They may also have full moderator capabilities in all forums, depending on the settings put forth by the board founder.
What are Moderators?
Moderators are individuals (or groups of individuals) who look after the forums from day to day. They have the authority to edit or delete posts and lock, unlock, move, delete and split topics in the forum they moderate. Generally, moderators are present to prevent users from going off-topic or posting abusive or offensive material.
What are usergroups?
Usergroups are groups of users that divide the community into manageable sections board administrators can work with. Each user can belong to several groups and each group can be assigned individual permissions. This provides an easy way for administrators to change permissions for many users at once, such as changing moderator permissions or granting users access to a private forum.
Where are the usergroups and how do I join one?
You can view all usergroups via the “Usergroups” link within your User Control Panel. If you would like to join one, proceed by clicking the appropriate button. Not all groups have open access, however. Some may require approval to join, some may be closed and some may even have hidden memberships. If the group is open, you can join it by clicking the appropriate button. If a group requires approval to join you may request to join by clicking the appropriate button. The user group leader will need to approve your request and may ask why you want to join the group. Please do not harass a group leader if they reject your request; they will have their reasons.
How do I become a usergroup leader?
A usergroup leader is usually assigned when usergroups are initially created by a board administrator. If you are interested in creating a usergroup, your first point of contact should be an administrator; try sending a private message.
Why do some usergroups appear in a different colour?
It is possible for the board administrator to assign a colour to the members of a usergroup to make it easy to identify the members of this group.
What is a “Default usergroup”?
If you are a member of more than one usergroup, your default is used to determine which group colour and group rank should be shown for you by default. The board administrator may grant you permission to change your default usergroup via your User Control Panel.
What is “The team” link?
This page provides you with a list of board staff, including board administrators and moderators and other details such as the forums they moderate.
Private Messaging
I cannot send private messages!
You must be signed in, have permission to send messages, and choose a recipient who accepts private messages. A recipient can disable new messages in Privacy; this also applies to group delivery and staff senders.
I keep getting unwanted private messages!
Open Account → Privacy and turn off incoming private messages, or report abusive content. Existing conversations remain readable. Your private email address is never published.
How do I report abusive contact?
Report abusive messages to staff. You can turn off incoming private messages under Account → Privacy. The website does not offer member-to-member email or publish account email addresses.
Friends
How do friendships work?
Friendships require mutual consent. Open a member profile and send a friend invitation. The other member must accept before either account lists the friendship. Invitations never grant access to private Spaces, tasks, account data or disabled private messages.
How do I manage friend requests?
Use the Invite as friend button on a member profile. Incoming requests appear in Friends and in the notification bell when enabled. Accept or decline incoming requests, cancel a sent request, or remove an existing friendship. Requests expire after fourteen days. There is no username-entry form or Foes feature.
Searching the Forums
How can I search a forum or forums?
Enter a search term in the search box located on the index, forum or topic pages. Advanced search can be accessed by clicking the “Advance Search” link which is available on all pages on the forum. How to access the search may depend on the style used.

To search for your topics, use the Advanced search page and fill in the various options appropriately.
Subscriptions and Bookmarks
What is the difference between bookmarking and subscribing?
In phpBB 3.0, bookmarking topics worked much like bookmarking in a web browser. You were not alerted when there was an update. As of phpBB 3.1, bookmarking is more like subscribing to a topic. You can be notified when a bookmarked topic is updated. Subscribing, however, will notify you when there is an update to a topic or forum on the board. Notification options for bookmarks and subscriptions can be configured in the User Control Panel, under “Board preferences”.
How do I bookmark or subscribe to specific topics?
You can bookmark or subscribe to a specific topic by clicking the appropriate link in the “Topic tools” menu, conveniently located near the top and bottom of a topic discussion.
